So yes, that's a beefier trans. OK, I finally found out where I heard the s had the 6R It was directly from Ford's website here. It appears that all the above now have the 6R80 for the late model year and model year. Nowhere on Fords site do they reference the earlier Explorer 6R60 transmission or th earlier Expedition 6R75 transmission.
My TSB bulletin even referenced the 6R60 model number. From what someone stated, the transmissions are all the same but differing the torque converter for midsize and fullsize trucks.

All times are UTC.I've a 15 GT a6 3. I mean I definitely appreciate that the car shifts crisper now, but it is to the point of being really annoying. So my question is: can the 2 issues above be remedied? If anything, I'm most annoyed with the 1st, and can live with the 2nd. I should add: I asked them to reduce shift pressure in D mode and keep it firm in S, and they sent me a revision that's labeled as such, but the car still seems to shift seriously firm from 1st to 2nd when warming up.
If I drive it around for a good bit and get the trans nice and hot, it seems to get a little smoother and less violent at part throttle. Is the cold fluid building too much pressure and causing this? I had the same issues when I had my A6 GT.
It would annoy me when driving in traffic. As soon as it would shift into 2nd, I had to hit the breaks. I would switch to sport mode and let it hold the gear longer to remedy the quick shifting. Now the only complain I have with this one is the throttle is sometimes too sensitive when driving over rough roads.
Your tunner should be able to smooth out the throttle map and shift settings to take care of your problems or just change drive mods until its up to temp.
Ideally you should let oil and water temps warm up before driving off, at least until the idle starts to drop after startup. Also, you should not touch the throttle pedal after startup, as it will kill the high idle that is set to warm the engine up faster.
Also, the transmission takes many times longer to warm up. RedfireV8 Well-Known Member. Didn't matter if the car was warm or cold. For 1, he ended up taking out the hard shifts.
I asked him to lessen it for shift only but he took it out of all the shifts it seemed. I felt it would hold shifts too long. Here's three great, free alternatives : Firefox - Chrome - Opera. The 6R80 transmission will bolt directly to all Modular and Coyote Ford engines and can be adapted to virtually any vehicle combination relatively easily, with a variety of parts available to simplify the transmission swap.
It is an excellent choice for a performance upgrade or when swapping from a manual to automatic transmission. This transmission has been largely avoided or ignored in the past due to a stand alone control system not being available. Now, the Quick 6 makes it possible for you to realize all of the benefits of the 6R80 in your vehicle. Offers six forward speeds, with gear ratios of 4. Enhancements were added by Ford to further improve the transmission, including the addition of a ratchet-style low one-way clutch, and removal of the internal TCU for the model year, easily enabling stand-alone control.
With aftermarket components, the 6R80 will likely handle much more power. Stock applications already employ a multi-plate torque converter clutch, enabling greater power handling in lockup. Despite having 6 forward gears, the transmission is only slightly larger and heavier than light-duty four-speed automatics, such as the 4L60E and 4R70W.
This six-speed transmission features an elegant, robust, band-free design that is simpler than most four speed automatic transmissions. This allows better reliability, better shift quality, and reduced rotating mass. The gear ratios offer a generous ratio spread of 6. From second to sixth gear, the ratios are extremely close, providing world-class performance. There is already a growing ecosystem of swap parts available for the 6R80, including bell housing adapters for various non-modular Ford V8s, with others likely to follow.
Stifflers is also producing bolt-in transmission cross-members for Fox body and SN95 Mustang applications, with other applications in the works. One primary advantage of using a six-speed clutch-to-clutch transmission, like the 6R80, is the tighter gear ratios when compared to traditional four speed automatics.

From first to sixth gear, there is a ratio spread. This efficiency will not only improve the acceleration and performance of high-horsepower applications, but also make a dramatic improvement when applied to near-stock or mildly-modified vehicles.
